Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a tutor, academic advisor, and academic coach?
A tutor is someone who will help you improve your skills in one academic area such as chemistry, violin, or English. This type of help is very helpful for individuals looking to master a specific problem or area of academic study.
An academic advisor is typically hired by a local educational institution to help you navigate the school’s systems to choose the right classes and advocate in behalf of you to the school or professor in times of need.
An academic coach focuses on helping you understand the way you approach problems, manage your own learning, work towards goals, and much more. Academic coaches are committed to help you develop the skills to be successful no matter the academic subject or professional setting.
Why should I get coaching?
Everyone needs a coach. A coach helps you discover your best self and encourages you to reach those goals that may seem out of reach.
How long does a typical coaching session last?
Standard sessions typically last 45–55 minutes.
How many sessions do you recommend?
There is not set number of sessions. Every individual has a different set of needs or challenges. For those dedicated to self improvement, typically 15 weekly sessions gets them on the right path. Those who need or want more support or time to better understand themselves and develop productive habits may desire more coaching sessions. That said, coaches work with the individual to determine how many sessions are best for them.
When does coaching end?
Coaching ends when either the mentee decides to end the sessions or the coach and mentee mutually agree that they are ready to tackle things on their own. Most mentees ask for ongoing, shorter check-in meetings to help them remain accountable.
What support do you provide after standard coaching end?
When standard coaching ends, a mentee can schedule shorter check-in meetings for support and accountability to maintain their skills. What this looks like, frequency, and for how long is dependent on an individual’s needs. Check-ins are typically shorter than the standard coaching session. See rates below.
Is there a limit to the number of group workshops I can attend?
No. Continual learning is important for personal development and growth. You are welcome to sign up and attend as many as you would like.
